When I film weddings, my style is discreet and unobtrusive. I blend into the background as much as possible in order to get natural footage for your wedding video. Before the wedding however, I love getting to know my couples and clients. Getting to know you as people influences the way I film your wedding, and the way I edit your wedding video. So, as we’re getting to know each other, I thought I’d take the opportunity to tell you a little more about me, the girl behind the camera…
Creative Ambition
I studied Media at uni and fell in love with editing. I had dreams of moving to London and getting a job editing feature films, and then moving to Hollywood... you gotta dream big right?! Wedding videography hadn’t crossed my mind but one of my lecturers shot wedding videos and asked me to come along and assist him. As cliché as it sounds, I just fell in love with videography and weddings. The more weddings I filmed the more my passion and love for the career grew.
I love film because it creates an atmosphere like nothing else. You capture sounds, words and emotions to tell a story. A short, edited video is a way to bring a moment, and a day in time, back to life - for me nothing else can do that.
Personal Life
In the summer I’m lucky enough to always be busy filming weddings but if I get the odd day off, I love spending time outdoors; going for long walks, having picnics with friends and enjoying nice beer gardens.
My guilty pleasures include bad rom coms, musicals, karaoke and 80s music. I will also binge watch anything on Netflix! My favourite film is The Lobster, it’s set in a dystopian society where everyone must have a mate otherwise they are turned into an animal. It’s funny, clever and a great reflection on modern society.
Adventure
When I have full weekends to myself, I love getting out of Birmingham and going on mini breaks; anywhere abroad with culture, sunshine and wine is a dream come true for me. I’ve wanted to go to Canada for years, it’s top of my bucket list and I’m so excited to be going this summer. I can't wait to create memories for myself and my family, and of course a film of my trip.
Earlier this year I went out to Morocco for a wedding shoot in the Agafay Desert. It was amazing to capture this unique culture and the atmosphere of the dessert; the sunset, the sounds and the inviting pot of traditional tea, poured from up high into glasses, a welcome sight in contrast to the dry expanse of the beautiful dessert.
As I’d never been before, I stayed an extra few days in Marrakech to really get a feel for the place. I challenged myself to make a travel film, to capture the colours, textures and hustle and bustle of the markets, the chatter, the language, the traditional music and the bird song. This is the first proper travel film I’ve made, and I loved it. I look at the film and it takes me back to the atmosphere of the city and brings back all the amazing memories. Still photographs don’t show the kind nod of a local as he’s working, or the roar of engines or the lively music in a taxi.
